Group for Personal Growth and Experience

 

FACILITATOR: LILIYA AHTAROVA (a registered psychotherapist, a certified music therapist) and team

Group activities will be conducted online.  A simultaneous translation in English

                                               is available for non- Bulgarian speakers.

 

 

 

 

              PURPOSES  of the Group for personal growth and experience:

 

-          The enrichment of every group member’s emotional and personal experience.

-          The exploration of behavior models.

-          The acquiring of emotional competence and expression.

-          The orientation towards a professional qualification of practitioners in the field of human behavior and relationships.

-          Relationship dynamics of the small group and the family. The dynamics of the small group is a specific of interaction: therapist-client, educator-student.

 

 

Expected outcomes:

1.The experience of and coming to awareness about personal ideosyncrasies, values and qualities.

2.The development of personal qualities and the interaction between them.

3.Structuring models of interpersonal relationships and personal stand.

4.The development of emotional competence.

5.Integrating experience from group work and referring it to real life situations. The improvement     of coping skills through self-knowledge.

 

 

Work methods:

-Active music therapy.

-Music, dances and movements.

-Associative music therapy, Music and Imagery.

-Psychodrama techniques with music. Techniques from art-therapy: drawing and modeling.

-Others approaches using arts as an instrument: Process Work.

 

 

 

 

FOR WHOM? – for musicians, dancers, painters, psychologists, social workers, health profession specialists and for everyone wishing to develop new personal skills, aimed at improving the hygiene of interaction and the prevention of illnesses caused by emotional experiences and others.

 

 

The group for personal growth and experience is a mandatory psychotherapeutic training for future psychotherapists, music therapists, as well as it is useful for all specialists in human groups work, in arts, in allied health professions and education.

Working with ourselves in the context of a group provides us  with the opportunity of discovering new qualities, gaining new skills in communication, gaining leadership skills, developing sensitivity towards the group we belong to. This format is working towards support in taking the right decisions according to ourselves , and the way of their realization. The work with arts makes the process a pleasant and rewarding experience!

 

 

The course comprises 30 training hours.

 

Those who would like to continue their training in MTI-Sofia will acquire a document for completing an entry level from the Tuition Program of the institute. Everyone else will get a certificate!

 

 

Duration of group sessions: 1 hour and 45 minutes.

 

Format of group work: 4 sessions per month;

 

WHEN?in accordance with the agreement between group members: possibilities are for sessions to be taken once per week as usual or in an intensive mode – two sessions per day.

 

Conditions of participation: Еntry level interview - could be held online as well as in person.

Music Therapy Training Program

Institute of Music Therapy- Sofia

       This training program was accredited in 2015 - 2016.

The MIT-S training enables the acquisition of the following specialties: Clinical Music Therapist and Music Psychotherapist.

The training provides for three levels:

 

Introductory, Foundation, Specialization

 

All Trainees complete the same program up to the Specialization level. Upon successful completion of the Foundation level, the student has the possibility to choose and complete one or both specialities.

Students wishing to obtain a Music Psychotherapy Diploma must have basic training in one of the major psychotherapy modalities! The overall training program provides for a minimum of 1560 total training hours.

 

MUSIC THERAPY INSTITUTE - SOFIA

 

Training Program

 

 MTI-S’ training program meets the requirements of the Bulgarian Psychotherapy Association and the criteria of the European Music Therapy Confederation.

The program includes theoretical and practical training in music therapy and psychotherapy training, and work with patients or clients under supervision. The overall training program provides a total of 1560 training hours.

 

The training is conducted on 3 levels

Upon completion of Level Two, the student has the right to conduct Clinical Music Therapy under Supervision and Music Psychotherapy under Supervision, with each session being supervised.

Clinical Music Therapy and Music Psychotherapy, both under supervision for each session.  

 

Upon completion of the whole program, the student receives a diploma in Clinical Music Therapy or Music Psychotherapy.

TRAINING PROGRAM

“MUSIC THERAPY APPROACHES IN PSYCHOTHERAPY AND CLINICAL PRACTICE”

 

1. PURPOSE

The purpose of the course is to provide students with theoretical and practical training in order to use music therapy techniques in the context of different psychotherapeutic approaches and clinical practice.

The managing and administrative board has the right to make ongoing adjustments to the basic program, as well as to the teaching team to ensure more effective training.

 

 

2. CURRICULUM STRUCTURE

 

2.1. INTRODUCTION LEVEL:

The purpose of the introductory level is, through group work, to orient the participants in the basic possibilities for using appropriate means of music therapy and music programs in the psychotherapeutic process.

Required hours - 30 hours.

Upon completion of the introductory level, participants who wish to continue their studies in the next levels attend an interview with members of the teaching team and take a music exam.

The Music Exam includes:

A. Common musical culture.

B. Potential for musical improvisation with a basic instrument and with instruments used in music therapy practice.

 

 

2.2. BASIC LEVEL:

 

·         Participation in a long-term “Self-Knowledge and Personal Development Group” experiencing and applying music therapy approaches in the psychotherapeutic process and music therapy in clinical practice.                                                                   Required hours - 200 hours

       (incl. 30 hours from Introductory Level)

 

Personal psychotherapy sessions with the means of music therapy: minimum

number - 30. One psychotherapy session lasts 90 minutes.

 Summary of topics in the course content:

·         Graduate Psychotherapists: Subjects which were part of their psychotherapy training are dropped from theoretical and practical seminars.

·         Graduate Psychologists: Psychological Counselling is eliminated from the theoretical and practical seminars.

 

 Elective seminars- up to 60 hours:

- The Arts in Psychotherapy with Fairytales.

- Psychoanalytic approaches and practices in

   psychotherapy.

- "Process-oriented" psychotherapy - by A.

   Mindel.

- Jungian oriented Psychotherapy.

- Psychodrama Group Therapy.

- Voice – as part of the therapeutic process

 

Mandatory Themes: One or more of suggested topics related to other approaches in psychotherapy, with a total hours of at least 60 hours

Required Hours - 60 hours

·         Compulsory Literature for extending theoretical and theoretical application.

·         Individual psychotherapy sessions - a minimum of 30 sessions during a period of no more than two consecutive calendar years during training.

·         The student is admitted to the intermediate diploma after covering training seminars (total of 625 hours), Participation in a group for personal development and experience and personal psychotherapy (total of 260 hours).

 

·         Completion of the Foundation Level includes: conducting an individual or group simulation music therapy session in one of the main music therapy approaches, and an oral exam in the basic theoretical disciplines.

 

2.2.1. Intermediate graduation

The student receives a music therapist certificate in clinical practice under supervision. For this purpose it is necessary to have a completed Personal Development and Experience Group; personal therapy sessions; full hours of practical and theoretical seminars; successfully passed the Foundation Level Exams.

 

 

2.3. SPECIALIZED LEVEL

 

2.3.1. Students wishing to graduate as Music Psychotherapist need to add the following hours:

A. Figurative associative approaches - plus 60 hours

         B. Music Lab - plus 30 hours

         B. Theoretical preparation in one of the main psychotherapeutic areas of choice - 30 hours

         D. Individual and group music therapy as a psychotherapy practice with a total of 90 sessions, of which:

- use of music therapy approaches in 60 individual psychotherapy sessions with adults under supervision;

- music therapy sessions in group psychotherapy - 30 sessions under supervision

 

2.3.2. Students wishing to obtain a Clinical Music Therapist major should add the following hours:

A. Music therapy in children –additional 60 hours

Clinical Musical Improvisation - additional 30 hours

Anatomy and physiology - additional 30 hours

 

   B. Individual and group music therapy as a music therapy practice with a total of 90 sessions, of which:

- use of music therapy approaches in 60 individual music therapy sessions with adults or children

 

- use of music therapy approaches in 30 music therapy sessions with a group of adults or children

 

Students in both majors need a minimum

                 - 5 sessions directly watched by the supervisor.

                 - group supervision - 60 sessions, of which 10 sessions with individual case presentations. Each group supervision session lasts for 3 academic hours.

 

2.3. GRADUATION

The training program finishes with a written presentation of:

A. Analysis of a musical work

 B. A case study of personal psychotherapy practice of a Music Psychotherapist or a Clinical Music Therapist.

 

The described case involves a supervised music therapy process completed and finalized through at least 10 consecutive music therapy sessions.
